Informative

Purdue University recently partnered with Windracers to conduct research on and perform real-world testing of their autonomous, unmanned aircraft. Manufactured in the United Kingdom, these aircraft are able to take off, fly, and land safely without the need for a remote pilot. The Windracers ULTRA aircraft have flown missions on 3 continents, including Antarctica, performing work in many different fields, such as emergency response, environmental monitoring and measuring, and mail delivery. More information about the Purdue University/Windracers partnership and the new Center on AI for Digital, Autonomous, and Augmented Aviation (AIDA3) can be found here.

On Tuesday, April 9th, a Windracers ULTRA aircraft named “Earhart” flew its first flight in the United States out of Jasper County Airport! Two Windracers ULTRA aircraft will call the airport their home as the partnership conducts research on autonomous transportation utilization and performs tests in order to obtain FAA certification for commercial use in the US. The aircraft will operate mostly on the airport’s turf runway, 09/27, performing takeoffs, pattern work, landings, and ground maneuvering. Jasper County Airport is excited to welcome the innovative minds and opportunities the program may bring to the community.
